The Forum School provides speech and language therapy as mandated by a student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP). Therapy is provided in individual and small group sessions. Carryover of skills outside the therapy room is fostered through collaboration between the speech therapist and the classroom teacher.
Speech/Language Specialists on staff are trained professionals who hold the Certificate of Clinical Competence and are certified by the New Jersey Department of Education. We focus on each child’s learning style in order to develop an individual program that addresses each student’s strengths and weaknesses.
Some areas addressed by speech/language therapy are:
- Attention/Work readiness
- Auditory processing
- Receptive/expressive language
- Augmentative communication
- Speech production
- Social skills
- Problem solving
Speech and language therapy maximizes a student’s ability to communicate. Therapy is focused on enhancing opportunities to build friendships, improve social communications, and improve learning capacity.
