Music
Music classes provide a place for creative exploration, enrichment, and self-expression. The basics of rhythm, melody, and harmony are taught through games and movement. The students learn about music appreciation, music theory, and the history of music. Our parents enjoy coming to two music shows a year. The chorus performs at school functions and in the community. Morning Circle is a daily music and language activity for our youngest students. Our children enjoy singing; it is a great way to start the day!
Art
The art program fosters self-expression, creativity, and sensory stimulation. Our youngest children receive the building blocks for creativity as they work with colors and shapes and practice fine motor skills. As the students mature they apply these skills to create beautiful projects which are on display in our hallways. When students are selected to be the “Artists of the Week” their work is showcased and they receive a special certificate. Art history is presented from the pre-school to our oldest children. Our students proudly display their best work in two art shows per year.
Swim
Water safety is our goal and fun is the result! Every child regardless of his/her ability is taught the fundamentals of swimming and water safety. At The Forum School pool, younger classes explore water movement, floating, submerging, and basic swimming skills. Classes that are age appropriate are transported to Montclair State University where emphasis is again on water safety as well as refinement of strokes and diving.
Physical Education
Learning the basics in adapted physical education consists of working on spatial awareness, balance, posture, and perceptual skills. The students then build on the basics and learn to play games and sports. We work on sportsmanship, cooperation, and problem solving. Wellness and lifetime fitness are emphasized.
